Founded by Ben Johnson, with start-up funds of $2.75 in the 1930s, the Winnfield Funeral Home served the burial needs of the African American community.
Some people came from Winnfield, wanted me to open a funeral home. I had a license, they heard about me having license and they come over and got me and I went to Winnfield. That’s where I started the Winnfield Funeral Home…. [It was] named after … the town of Winnfield.
