Herman Christophe House

also known as the Armas Christophe House

My mama's daddy was born and raised in that house. That was their house...My mama's daddy was named Armas Christophe, ‘cause my mama was a Christophe. Herman Christophe's daddy was Welch. And Welch's daddy and my grandpa was full brothers. That's their property. My mama was born in 1886, I believe,...[and] her daddy was raised there.

Although it has undergone alterations over the years, this house was constructed c. 1845 and has been in the Christophe family since that time. It is a one-story frame residence with gabled roof and central brick chimney. A gallery is recessed under the front slope of the roof, but is missing its original porch columns.
